Shop drawings, detailing & representation

Beyond the stamp, Signum West produces the drawings that get a sign built — and, when the moment calls for it, stands behind them in the room.

Turn-key detailing

A full shop-drawing service

A complete detailing partner for shops that don't carry in-house engineering or drafting. Hand over a concept, a sketch, or a set of contract drawings and receive a fabrication-ready package in return — members sized, connections resolved, and every part dimensioned for the floor. It lets a fabricator take on engineered, permit-grade work without standing up a technical department to do it.

Submittal-ready

Packages built to survive review

When a project demands a fully produced submittal — for your own client's review, or the scrutiny of a hard-nosed general contractor or architect — Signum West assembles the complete set: coordinated drawings, calculations, and details, produced to withstand a rigorous review cycle and come back approved.

Concierge

Representation in the room

For high-stakes work, Signum West can sit in and navigate the client meeting directly — explaining every element of the technical work behind sign fabrication and installation, fielding questions, and speaking the language of engineers, general contractors, and architects alike. Built from your project's contract drawings or a detailed site survey.

Built for multi-site rollouts

Rolling a sign program out across many sites? Every location is individually engineered to its own adopted code and wind map — then billed at the same published $300, with no volume markups and a single point of contact managing the whole batch.

Who's behind the stamp

Engineer-owned, fabrication-informed, and facade-grade.

Michael Bennett, P.E.

Owner & Engineer of Record

Signum West is led by its owner and engineer of record — a structural engineer, trained at the University of California, Berkeley, who crossed into signage in 2013, carrying over a background in curtain-wall and building-envelope design. He went on to serve as engineering manager for the San Francisco Bay Area's largest sign fabricator, sitting at the hinge point between what a sign is meant to be and how it actually gets built.

In that role he was the direct line from concept and design through fabrication and all the way out to installation — in continuous dialogue with the fabricators, welders, and field crews who cut, build, and finally stand the work. Installation is where the rubber meets the road: the moment a drawing has to become a real structure — at height, on a schedule, in front of the client — and where every assumption on paper is tested against the field. Details resolved in that back-and-forth, on the shop floor and at the jobsite rather than from behind a desk, are precisely where the knowledge to get things right is earned.

He carries that hands-on fabrication experience — and a California C-51 Structural Steel contractor's license — into every set of drawings. Knowing how a part is truly cut, welded, and erected means the design accounts for it: buildable detailing, no over-designed sections that break the budget or defy the shop, and drawings a fabricator can take straight to the floor.

Underpinning all of it is a foundation in curtain-wall and facade-system engineering — ACM (aluminum composite material) cladding, GFRC (glass-fiber-reinforced concrete), and precast concrete systems. Anchoring large, wind- and seismic-loaded panels back to a structure, and detailing connections that endure real loads and thermal movement, is the same discipline that governs a monument, pylon, or gateway. Heavy, high-exposure signage sits squarely in that wheelhouse.
